Water

Mendoza is divided by four rivers, all descending from the Andes and running through its territory: Atuel, Diamante, Tunuyán and Mendoza. Many dams and reservoirs are here, including Potrerillos, Carrizal, Agua del Toro, Los Reyunos and Atuel. They are a great attraction for lovers of camping and aquatic activities such as water skiing, windsurfing, wakeboarding and rafting.

The fauna in Mendoza is unique. Among the species found in the province the most important are condors and rheas. There are also weasels, cuis, maras, viscachas, andean foxes, wild cats, pumas and guanacos.

The tree is one of the symbols of Mendoza’s cultural identity. The beginning of the story takes us to Valle de Cuyum, where the Huarpes native tribes created a system of artificial irrigation by using ditches. The first systematic plantation was founded in the Alameda and in 1815 the governor at that time, San Martin, ordered the planting of 7 blocks. A methodical urban forestation was then implemented, and, by 1923, 80% of the public trees that exist today were planted. The trees in the city cause humidification of the warm and dry air descending from the foothills. They fix the soil, temper the Zonda winds, diminish noise levels, absorb solar rays, purify polluting gases and contribute to the incomparable landscape.
